Sketching a Bermuda Sunset New York-based Scottish artist Catriona Herd paints landscapes from plein air sketches done in Scotland, mainland Europe and North America.

Herd, who also paints the figure, is working towards her next solo show at the Broome Street Gallery, 498 Broome Street, SoHo, Manhattan, NY 10013, which runs from Tuesday June 29 through Sunday July 11.

The solo exhibition is called "Nature: Catching The Colour."

Herd's previous solo exhibition in New York was staged at Clover's Fine Art Gallery at 338 Atlantic Avenue in downtown Brooklyn over Christmas and New Year 2009/2010.

In November of 2009, Herd's work was up for auction in the Scottish Contemporary Art Auction at McTears. Over the summer, Herd won a scholarship to paint at the Anderson Ranch Arts Centre in Aspen, Colorado and also undertook sketching trips to France and Scotland.

In 2008, Herd staged successful solo exhibitions at the Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh and at The Broome Street Gallery in Manhattan.

Glasgow-born Herd graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee in the 1980s, where her teachers included veteran Scottish painters James Morrison, Alberto Morocco and Jack Knox, who was a major influence.

Following stints in Edinburgh, Hong Kong and New Zealand, Herd settled in New York in 2003.

American buyers of Herd's work speak of the "honesty" of her paintings, strong on colour, atmosphere and technical structure.
